The redesigned Acura MDX is not only a capable crossover SUV platform with a flexible interior, but it is also outfitted with a wide array of technology to meet several owner needs. A comparison of the 2022 Acura MDX vs. 2021 Mazda CX-9 will help customers make a very important decision between two well-respected models in a particularly competitive segment of the automotive industry.
Acura offers its latest MDX crossover SUV in four distinct versions, MDX (base), MDX with Technology, MDX with A-Spec® and MDX with Advance. On a superficial level, the 2022 MDX and 2021 Mazda CX-9 do share a common form factor. The mechanical performance of crossover SUVs certainly helps determine if customers are going to find it useful. However, it is an automaker’s suite of connectivity that has really become important to buyers. Both the 2022 Acura MDX and 2021 Mazda CX-9 are equipped with access to both the Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ suites of applications. Acura takes its redesigned 2022 MDX a step further by also offering compatibility with the Amazon Alexa digital home assistant standard equipment as well as a high-speed Wi-Fi hotspot. Mazda doesn’t offer Alexa compatibility with its three-row crossover and Wi-Fi is only available on top trim grades.
Every 2022 Acura MDX coming to the Acura of Modesto showroom will have a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter, V-6 engine under the hood that will make 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque. Versions of the 2022 MDX with front-wheel-drive can tow 3,500 pounds and models with Super Handling All-Wheel Drive® can pull 5,000 pounds. The 2021 Mazda CX-9 employs a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It does not make as much power as the engine used by the 2022 MDX and it can only tow up to 3,500 pounds.
As was stated earlier, both the 2022 Acura MDX and 2021 Mazda CX-9 have three rows of seats that can allow each crossover SUV to hold as many as seven passengers. Owners of the 2022 MDX will be able to haul more cargo as they manipulate the vehicle’s interior. When the 2022 Acura MDX is at maximum passenger capacity, there will still be 16.3 cubic-feet of cargo volume behind the third row. Folding the furthest backseat down will make 39.1 cubic-feet available and a maximum of 71.4 cubic-feet is available in the 2022 Acura MDX. All three of these figures represent more cargo volume than what can be found in a corresponding configuration of the 2021 Mazda CX-9.
